ford c500 marmon herrington... in Norway :-)

today i fired up the old "beast" after 20 years of rest.
got hold of it a couple of weeks ago, and it is absolute rescue-able!
this have been "working" as a plane de-icing vehicle here in norway, and i know about one other here in norway still alive.

my truck is in quite poor shape, but not at all eaten up by rust. it has the v8 flathead (8rt), that runs fine. but the tranny is "frozen" in gear. found out that the shifting mecanism is rustet and needs some nice help getting free:-)
the front driveshaft is missing. and the brakes is nowhere to be found..
and then i need to get hold of some replacement rims, as the widowmaker rims has to go..

anyone have ideas of how many marmon coe`s there are left?

WOW! Nice truck, and congratulations on your new toy. oh and Welcome to FTE!

Not sure on the numbers of MH conversions produced but I don't think there are too many around any more.

I know of a 40 or 41 COE MH near me (Salt Lake Utah) plus I recently brought this 1953 C600 MH home.

are you sure your wheels are widow Makers? or just lockrings? EDIT: ya that rear wheel looks like it has the raised band.

Truckdog (Stu) will be along shortly im sure, with lots of good info

Another C-500/600 MH, that's great. Yours and Josh's are the only two I'm aware of. We've seen several of the earlier '48-'52 body style, but none others of the '53 to '56 body style. Maybe Chuck or Mark will drop by and comment on whether they know of any.

As a question for corvair, can you tell from your badging whether your truck was produced in the US, or was it perhaps converted locally or maybe in Canada, Australia, or South Africa? Our member Mark Mossell (thechassisman) has created a M-H Registry within his Hub Garage site. He'll want to have as much info as possible about your truck, and yours too Josh. Edit - and yours Ken. Here's his site link.

HubGarage.com - Mark Mossell's Marmon Herrington Garage.

As for your question about survivors, what I've done to try to document the number of surviving F-2/F-3/F-250s having my same drive train is to archive front axle numbers. The info I've gathered shows that the axles were all numbered, and it looks like they were used in number order. It looks like approximately 600 of the F-2/3/250 trucks were converted in 1951, 52, and 53 having the R32-4 drive train. According to Chuck, more of the bigger trucks like yours would have been converted originally because of the nature of the work they were called upon to perform. But I doubt you'd find that the difference was that great. You guys might want to compare notes, and try to gather similar data to what I've done, but you'd I think have to include all the standard cab trucks with your COEs. And whether yours were produced in the same plant or country would probably matter too.

While I'm rambling, Mark Mossell learned this past week that a Ranger panel conversion has shown up in South Africa. With right hand drive. Neither of us had ever heard of others produced, either for export or produced overseas. He's got pictures of it in his Hub Garage gallery. Stu

Very cool find. Always liked the look of the COE's.

Made a little headway on my 57 MH. The dump bed goes on it next week.

I don't know how many M-H COE's are left, but they did build a lot of them. Not nearly as many as conventionals, but still a fair amount of them. Actually, production of 2wd COE's was a lot less than conventionals as well, so it makes sense that they are not common today.
I'm sure I have seen a few 1953-56 M-H COE's over the years. One that stands out in my mind was a 110" WB '56 CM-604 fire truck. It was a Custom Cab, and it was like new! It had the top cut off, if I remember right. I should have bought it! Another one that I remember was a 53-55 CM-904 with an enclosed utility body on it. And then there's the '56 CM-804 that Sunrise Equipment has for sale on their website.

Well, I had to go look for it. Here's the link to the advertisement. And pics of it. They don't list an asking price. Stu

tnx for the nice welcome :-).

my dear wife you can say is quite patient with me, after all this isnt the first "hopeless" project i have pulled home! but she has the "virus" also so that makes things easier! got a 61 impala bubbeltop for here this winter so she has enough to do by her own.

don`t know about you ford guys, if its like swearing in the church having gm products? and on one hand i suddenly became a ford guy myself... again.. hehe..
as for me i`m more about the looks and feel of cars rather than the make and producers.

my taste is strange my wife says, and thinks the old "beast" is something of the uglyest she ever seen. hehe
i think its grows on one.... and now after a couple of weeks i just think that my 1971 volvo f85 truck just looks booring to say mildly.

my plan for the ford is build a car-hauler for my other projects/future projects, and its always nice to have a truck hauling building stuff.

-truckdog: i will check to tags. maybe take some pictures of them. but it rains so heavy outside today that it would have to wait.

did take some video of it running yesterday, that i think is youtube stuff.. hehe
will post the video link as soon i got it on ytube..

That sounds and runs great.

I have a customer that has a 48 F5 COE that he bought new. It has a service box on it and has been garaged it's entire life. I called him today to see if he wants to sell it. He said $1,500.00 and it's mine. I told him to consider it sold.
