06 Escape trans issue
We have an 06 AWD with 75,000 km or 40k miles. The truck is awesome, wife bought it new and has never had an issue til now. When driving and from memory its only when you take off or are slowing to a stop it clunks hard in around 1st gear in and out. Its well maintained and we definately wanna keep it but Im concerned with the clunkin issue and dont wanna see her stranded anywhere. Thanks!

The transmission is electronically controlled. I would check the fluid level and quality. If driven in a lot of stop and go traffic, the heat can break down the fluid faster than occurs if driven on the highway. You could also disconnect the battery, and let the transmission re-learn how you drive. I read that it pays attention to how heavy footed you are on the gas pedal, and adjusts its shifting to match that, i.e., easy shifts if you don't press the go pedal too hard, and harder/firmer shifts if you do. It does this by adjusting the internal line pressure.
You could also check the CV joints and the front suspension, the center differential and the rear drive shaft for loose or damaged parts.
