Alright, I just bought my mudding truck! Its a 1979 "F-150". I quote f150 because the bed cab and box are about the only things that are still original. Its got a 12" lift, 44" gumbo mudders, 1 ton axle in the rear, 3/4 reinforced front axle with a built 400. Got it for cheap because the tranny is shot. Well heres the thing. I have fired my truck up several times and the exhaust smokes. It is not bellowing white smoke. it was a little bit of greyish smoke. And I checked my radiator and it does lose antifreeze, and checked the oil dipstick and the oil is not milky or bubbly. But it looks like there is some condensation on the upper portion of the dipstick. The engine sounds absolutely fine, and doesnt seem like it loses pressure. Any ideas on what it might be? I am really hoping its not a blown head gasket. I'm thinking about buying a compression test kit and testing it that way.
If it evaps pretty quick, then it is probably antifreeze or water. Oil burning is blueish-grey, and trans fluid burning is billowing white. My best guess is you have a leak somewhere. Just my $0.02
Then there might be something in the cat or mufflers causing the problem. My only guess for that then would be water in your muff, which would produce steam. If it keeps happening, then there might be a hole in the muff. Or it could be as simple as just some condensation in the pipes

When i got it the guy had put on a flo master 40. He put it on vertical, not horizontal and didnt even tap out holes. I drilled out a hole in it yesterday and sludge started oozing out. It might be that. haha
The condensation on the dipstick could be caused by low operating temps. Bad thermostat or no thermostat at all?
Is the pvc valve hooked up and working?

Is the what what? haha I dont know alot about this truck yet but if you will explain this to me i can find out! Thanks
Does anyone know of a REALLY good battery tie down/strap? I had mine bungie corded to keep it in place and it still bounced out and into my fan. Happened to my buddy too. :/
I would do a compression test, you could still have a blown head gasket with no water getting into the oil pan. It's not uncommon to blow them between cylinders that includes a water passage.
not sure if you got a axcess to a welder or not but weld 2 threaded rods each side of battery and bolt a of stip of on top of battery. its a pretty standard hold down.

Sweet. I'll give it a shot. My best friend and roomie are welders/fabricators so it shouldnt be a problem. Do you have or know where i could go and find a picture to base a design off of?
