96 F250 true duals
My son and I had a father son day friday (7 hrs) doing the exhaust on his 96 F250 5.8L. When we picked up the truck a cpl weeks ago we noticed the previous owner had put on new cats(prollly to get it to pass emmissions) They used 2 - 2 1/2" cats back to back replacing the huge Ford cat. They did a crazy hack job where the factory Y used to be.
outside:
inside:
We cut the Y off the flange and welded in a pair of 2 1/4" pipes. Using the flange let us trial fit, tack and then weld on the workbench. Lot easier than upside down... that splatter is HOT
We then split the cats into single on each pipe:
My son wanted to try the Magnaflow glass packs so he got a pair of aluminized 2 1/4" x 22" #18135. He also got a mandrel J bend. $79 shipped from Summit Racing. We both were surprised how quiet the exhaust got once all the bends and tubing was added compared to open flange, open after cats then open after mufflers. (we had to see how loud each phase was right?? ) It has a nice deep tone to it. No drone or ricer roar. He likes it!! All that matters.
