6.0L Blown Head Gaskets
I have a 2006 6.0L with 90,000 miles, I took the truck into the dealership for a whistle the I thought was attributed to the PSD ( I had the turbo replaced about a year ago, I thought I had a re-occurring problem)
Turns out I have blown head gaskets, no longer under warranty (purchased in March '06). How common is this? The dealership said they were replacing 3-4/ week. Why isn't this a recall? Is there a TSB related to the issue that I should check. Are there other related TSB's? The dealership indicated that this was a result of the bolts stretching causing the head gaskets to fail.....
What is the fix and should I try to find someone other than the dealership to fix? The dealership did say that Ford would participate in the repair and cover $1300.00 of the repair, my portion will be around $1800.00 if I choose to have the dealership perform the work.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

If you spend some time reading through the 6.0 tech folder, you will learn that head gasket failure is a common problem. The fix is to replace the head bolts with ARP head studs when the head gaskets are replaced. If the job is only going to cost you $1,800, bring them the ARP head studs and be thankful that you aren't paying $5,000 out of pocket.

Welcome
As ZeroTucker stated there are problems your end $1800 in my book a good deal get a set of ARP studs use the Ford HGs and have them fix what ever is needed while they have the cab off then you need a good set of gauges something like the Edge Insight to check temps get a coolant filter fuel pressure gauge and i know change the Ford Gold Coolant in my book the problem. Now when they do the HG are they replaceing the oil cooler and egr cooler the main reason you lost the heads. The oil cooler got plugged from silicates dropping out and the first stop is the oil cooler, all i can say is do a lot of reading before and after the fix to know where you stand

Shaneb75..........I heard the whistling noise mostly on deceleration and though it may be associated with the turbo. As I understand it from the dealer, the whistle is coming from the coolant overflow tube. The coolant overflow reservoir is low due to the blown HG allowing coolant to bypass....so technically you are correct, the noise isn't directly from HG

First, there are many causes for blown HGs and blown HGs are often the effect and not the cause. You said your turbo was replaced about a year ago. Why? Was it over-boost?
Do you have any mods and/or running a tuner?
Also, loss of coolant can be caused by a failed EGR cooler as well as a HG issue. Do you know what tests were done by the dealer to determine it was a HG issue?
