Help! I'm open to suggestions for tranny cooler location??

I'm installing a tranny cooler on my 55 f-100; I'm open to any suggestions as to where to mount it; not sure if I have the room on the front of the rad with the way the grille mounts.

I opted to use the finned aluminum style coolers, the one pictured on the right side of the frame is for the trans and the one on the left is for the power steering/hydro-boost fluid.

go online to ebay they have remote trans coolers with there own cooling fan. They should fit between your drive shaft and passager side frame rail under the back of the cab near the tail shaft of the transmission.

Thanks guys....I like those finned ones that fit on frame rail. However, I've already purchased my traditional style...flat....rad mount type. Could see about exchanging!

I have one in my radiator, but added a 2nd inline cooler after the radiator cooler and mounted it on the passenger side inner fender well. I wasn't sure how well it would work being under the hood with no direct air flowing through it, but according to my trans temp gauge the 2nd cooler dropped the fluid temps by 20-degrees. Those finned ones that CharlieLed uses are great looking.

one my '54.

trying to make a tube to connect the coolers together, but a 3/8" line needs a tight bend.

Why 2 coolers? Obviously your grille still bolts up! Not going to have that valance-rad seal?

Are you trying to connect the inner stubs to each other? Why not connect the right stub of one to the right stub of the other and eliminate the tight bend? That lets the left stub of each be inlet and outlet.

I have a simple 'U' type through aluminum fins which GM used back in the 70's that I plan to install in front of my radiator but behind my grille so it will get air through it from the fan but be out of sight.

My radiator has the tank under it for the trans cooler but my transmission re-builder recommends not using that. If it leaks it kills the trans and he has seen many of them over the years for just that very reason.

I plan to put a small tube there to connect the two so that in case there is a leak it will be contained.

I had 1 cooler on there but the C6 likes to heat up, after driving for awhile I would check the fluid level and it was 1/2 way up the dipstick tube but was normal levels cold and warm. I put 2 coolers to try to help and the grill blocks the top of both coolers. Also the reason the tight bend is needed is I used the existing holes on the crossmember to run the hard lines through.

haven't tried it out yet as the 390 and C6 are now new but haven't finished install.
