What 9 inch came in a 69 4WD?

NumberDummy decoded the VIN on my vehicle a couple of years ago. I just looked at the dif and it is missing the tag, and the casting numbers I gather are not that informative (C5AW 4668 A in any case).

I have a buddy with an original Ford Traction lock, but I think I need to know how many splines are on my 9 inch, and what type it is. Is it possible from the year and VIN to make an educated guess before we go to the trouble of pulling it apart?

F11 = F100 4WD

Y = 360 2V

R = San Jose CA Assembly Plant

D85409 = 1969.

131" Wheelbase

K = Empire Green

F110 = F100 4WD / 5600 lbs. GVWR

C481: C4 = Pastel Parchment Corinthian Vinyl & Pastel Parchment Kiwi Pattern Vinyl // 81 = 81B Custom Cab

A = New Process 435 4 Speed Manual Transmission

08 = Ford 9" / 3.50-1 / non Limited Slip / 3300 lb. Rear Axle Capacity

5600 lbs. GrossVehicleWeightRating

179 Net HP @ 4000 RPM

B7 = Ford Motor Company of Canada-Pacific Zone

By the way, I love that 179 Net HP @ 4000 RPM.

Hay Paul this is likey a number dummy thing but I think Ford used 28 spline rears until '73 in F100's I wouldn't sign my name in blood on that but that sounds familiar to me. too bad you cant find the tag I think if there is a "L" in place of a "." would be a locker there again not 100% on that. and I think the front would be a dana 44.....

Cory,

Based both on what NumberDummy decoded, and the way it drives, I am positive it does not have a locker rear end.

I think the locker that my neighbor has is for a 31 spline, and I suspect you are right, I just want to confirm what was standard before I turn it down. I don't want to take it apart to confirm that it won't work.

Paul.

why not pull an axle and count the splines. remove tire, remove brake drum 4 bolts presto. you have your answer. its been a long time since 1969 and anything cold have happened.

Brown 79 - the honest answer is I'd rather avoid all of that as it is a bit of work and I'd rather spend the time on several other things, plus I have aluminum spacers and wheels, and they both need to be re-torqued after taking them off. Yes, that does suggest a certain amount of laziness!

I am pretty sure it is the original rear end, so if I can confirm that 69s came with a 28 spline I'll go in a different direction.
