1997 7.3 liter brake issue

I have plenty of pedal but it seams I have no vacuum so it takes a lot of leg to get my truck stopped. All the other accessories seem to be working well. I originally thought it might be the vacuum pump but I have my doubts because the rest of the accessories work. Any ideas? Thanks!

FIRST thing welcome a board.

I think the first thing its the vaccum pump, or brake booster. some other people with more knowledge will chime in here soon

It looks like the booster is a bit cheaper so maybe I'll try that first. Thanks!

Maybe try measuring the vacuum? it could rule out the pump. also check every hose that carries vacuum. I wouldnt buy anything untill you do that. does the brake idiot light come on?

Lol! Idiot light... i like that. The light comes on every now and then but very rarely and inconsistently. For the most part it comes on and right back off and not necessarily when I hit the brakes.

In my experience If the Vacuum pump is bad, the pedal is Rock solid after 1 or 2 taps of the pedal. I just changed mine yesterday actually, and just had it replaced last year too. Same symptoms both times. Thank God for Lifetime Warranty's lol

Yeah, I spoke to someone last night with many of the same symptoms. He seems to think it's the pump as well. I guess I'll start there. Thanks!

fixed

Sorry about the delay on the update. It was the vacuum pump. Turns out you can actually hear if the pump is working correctly. The vacuum pump makes a pumping noise if its working. The old one was silent. Hope this helps someone else!

Good to hear, its usually just something is wrong with the diaphragm inside. Odd thing was when I replaced mine a month or two ago, it still made the sound, Could still pull pressure on my finger but not like it should. The new one feels like it'll suck skin into the pump lol.
