E4OD failed again... Gush out of bell housing HELP!

twice rebuilt by ford (2nd time under warranty). Our 1996 E4OD fails on hill climbs, by gushing tranny fluid out the bell housing.

Seems time to go aftermarket.

What to do????

Install a Viton-based pump-shaft seal. The stock seals tend to get soft and puke out the fluid when they get hot. As soon as they cool back down, they go back to "normal".

A heavier-duty transmission cooler might also help.

More transmission cooling will indeed likely help. It's just possible the existing cooler is big enough, but look at it and ask yourself what makes air flow through it instead of around it. I fitted a second cooler to my 460 engined F53, plumbed after the first, with a thermostatically controlled electric fan, and it's amazing how often it comes on when at rest.

Thanks for all your tips.

Hopefully we can keep'r going after this last blowout

Yep, we bought the large pan & cooler radiator fan after the last blowout; but of course, warranty issues modifying Ford's genius.

Now we do it!

we bought these items below, but never installed them... dreaded warranty void

I doubt that the pan is going to be much help. You need more cooling, not a bigger pan. Pans, even with tubes in them, are not at all efficient at trans cooling.

OK, so we own the large pan, it holds lots more fluid;

so we should not install it?

Perhaps we should add the fan cooler is addition to the stock cooler?

or would that make for too much pumping???

currently, the tranny fluid is pumped thru the radiator and also a separate stock cooler with no fan

thanks for all your help!

wanna put this fire out for good!!!
