Will be putting a 67 f100 9 inch in my 56 and want to put the widest tires on as possible, anyone know what will fit without rubbing?

I have a C4 i was planning on beefing up but have been kicking around the idea of using a 4R70W and was wondering if anyone has used this setup? Also need suggestions on what gear ratio to use, i plan on driving above 55mph often. thanks for the help

I thought the swap was exactly the same..
otherwise I would measure using the guide from
Billet Specialties - Measuring Guide & Order Form

the 4R70w is computer controlled, (upgraded AODE)..

rear gear ratio as low (numerically) as possible and still deal with good acceleration.. 3/27, 3.55

I downloaded the form to help determine size of tires to use but i am not home and wont be for 4 months, so i cant measure to determine what tire will fit. The guy building my motor wants to know what size tires i plan to run, and i dont have any idea i want to run the widest i can but dont know what that is.

I think your motor guy is pulling your chain. I can't imagine why he would care what the tire size will be.

I ran P275/50R15's and they just fit under the stock fender with a 1" gap to the bed. You'll need to measure you rear axle flange-to-flange to figure the wheel offset you'll need.

Is he setting up the trans too? He may be working on the stall converter with your gear ratio...

It depends on what size wheels your going with... and what back spacing your looking at...

hes not working on the transmission but he did ask what transmission, convertor, gear ratio, gear size, and tire width. I think he just wants to know everything he can about the truck, it will be a custom ground cam i dont know if he needs to know that information for his cam grinder or not, not sure.

67 nine-inch

I used a 67 rear end out of an f100; it bolted right in using wider u-bolts! I have Cragar SS 8" rims with 295 BFG's...no rubbing!!

wakeboarder32, I don't have a clue why he would need to know... with the CAM grinding you normally like to know the engine specs.... crank, rods, piston, valves, lifters and rockers... head work along with carb, intake and exhaust... to make sure it all works together right...

Tire WIDTH doesn't have any relation to gear ratios, overall speed, etc. Overall tire height I could understand! My 295's stick out beyond the fender edge by an inch or so; no issue unless your riding low! About an inch clearance on inside/box...watch rim backspacing

I agree with NightTrain55, width should be of no concern when determining gear ratios. As for the width of tire, here is a drawing I did when I was answering this very question on one of my trucks. The width of the rearend is probably not the same as yours (you really need to know how wide that 67 9 inch really is...flange to flange) but the other dimensions apply to your truck.
