240 Valve Gasket?? Mystery help
So I decide im going to replace my valve cover gasket off of my 66 F100 with a 240. As I take the cover off I noticed their was a piece of tin with a brittle half broken piece of hardnened rubber inside of the valve cover that fits perfectly on a piece of tin that is inside the valve cover. Looking at it I believe it is made to make a firm seperator between the 1/4 valves nearest the PCV Valve... I assume so they would have proper lubercation. No parts man seems to know what the part would be called or have any idea on how I can get the part. HELP!!!
Again its a rubber piece thats on a piece of tin that is IN the Valve cover itself when you take it off... It firmly snaps over the piece of tin making a nice tight fit
Whats it called where can I buy one... no I dont think it was a home made type deal nor does the parts stores... they all think it was a piece made by ford to fit right in

Baffle?
So the 2..3 inch piece of rubber that fits directly the straight piece of tin on the Valve Cover is a baffle?
Can I ask... why is their not more available ... I assume more people then I have a 40 year old cracked on.... Do they just go without one... or do new valve covers (aftermarket) ones do not need one?
What is the purpose of it?
sorry for all of the questions

So due to the parts store sending me the wrong valve cover gasket... I started looking around for a newer Ford Valve Cover... now here is the itnersting part.
Some of you suggested that i just get a newer ford valve cover that wouldnt need the baffle (or never came with one). Well would you be suprised to know... The valve cover from a 240 66 6 cylinder... is EXACTLY the same with the exception of a Ford Stamp on top as a 300 70 and 74 Ford F150/100???? So the only real difference between them is a Seal.
So my question is what was the point of the baffle seal? What exactly was the point of it... imrpoved ecomonmy, lubrications, ETC? and ultimately... why did Ford quit putting them in ... and again keep in mind the valve covers are exactly the same in the newer ones.

fordanomics -doesnt go with what the numbers guy said
according to the numbers guy 67 is the last year Ford put seals in... and im sure he is correct. So regarding the comment amount warranties and such doesnt really jive.
My observance is still this I pull up valve covers from two Ford pickups that had 300's in them. Other then the "powered by ford" stamp ontop of the cover... the Valve Covers were EXACTLY the same with the esception of not having the baffle seal... It looked exactly the same inside... tin was at the same spot and such... but no rubber baffle seal on it.
So again my question remains the same what exactly is/was the point of the rubber... if Ford simply done away with it and kept the valve cover design exactly the same. Was it somethning that improved economy? lubrication? etc. IM beginning to think Ford just done away with it because it save them a dollar a pickup

1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog / Text, Section 60.3 240/300 engine:
1965/67: C5AZ-6A545-A .. Seal-Valve Cover Baffle 240 & 300.
------------------------------------------------------------
1965/67: C5AZ-6584-B .. V/C Gasket-Rubber 240 & 300.
1965/67: C6AZ-6584-A .. V/C Gasket-Rubber & Cork 240 & 300.
1968/69: C8AZ-6584-A .. V/C Gasket-Cork Composition 240 & 300.
1970/71: DOAZ-6584-D .. V/C Gasket-Rubber & Cork 240/300.
1972: C8AZ-6584-A .. V/C Gasket-Cork Composition 300.
1972: DOAZ-6584-D .. V/C Gasket-Rubber & Cork 240.
Why so many types of V/C gaskets? The valve covers leaked oil like sieves, a common problem back then with these engines.
You gotta be an old Ford partsman and/or line mechanic that worked during this time frame, to remember this jazz.

So is what Im saying correct that the newer valve covers (after 67) did have the same design... just did not have the baffle seal???
So what purpose did the baffle seal serve??? and why did they discontinue using it after 67 since the valve cover designs stayed the same for years after?
