i bought the augo gauge 2 1/2 inch gauges. the one with the mechanical water temp, oil pressure, and volt meter. i read on here that alot of people drill a hole in the removeable plug on the water pump and hook up the water temp. i also read that people hook up lower in the motor for the oil pressure but where exactly? i have a 400. also i have a brand new auto meter sending unit laying around, would this give me a more accurate reading over the stock sending unit in the motor now?
ok i seen that plug on the thermostat housing too. so i guess i have two good options for that. now i guess where to hook up oil pressure a and get an answer on the sending unit and i am set. i am the type of person that i will research and if i can't find the answer i will ask so i get it right the first time. i do want to run the stock gauges and also the aftermarket.
well thats not hard to do man on ur oil press u need to put a tee at the oil filter housing where u stock one is put the stock sending unit in the top n ur line from the side n thats done now i dont remember where my original temp sending unit was (its been awhile )but i put my manual temp guage to the thermostat housing but if thats where the stock one is i really dont see any problem w doin the same thing there ur new guages should have come w all the different fittings but thats just me so it totally up to u how u do it
thanks for the reply, that is the way i was going to do it is with a tee but i just read on here that you get a more accurate reading if you hook it up lower in the motor. people were saying that in the stock location the oil pressure drops after the motor warms up.
I am also about to try and install a mechanical gauge and keep the stock sending unit. I assumed a t fitting would be needed, but can anyone be more specific about what size and where to get such a piece? Thanks!
any hardware store should be able to help you out. just take off the stock sending unit and if the threaded nut for the mechanical gauge is the same just explain to them what you are trying to do. should just be a simple tee with 1 male and 2 female ends.
Thanks so far. Advance had fitting and I found a 1/8 female tee with a male end. Problem is now that the old sending unit won't unscrew? Are there any tricks? That nut is starting to strip so I am not going to force it anymore. I added some wd40 and will let it sit, but the entire assembly looked clean to start so I'm surprised it is so stuck.
