My driveway test through experience:

If your fuel pump doesn't run, no wts light, no tach on the 99-2002 trucks, and no glowplug... it's a good bet it's your PCM.

Ford wants 750 plus 80 for tuning... Junkyards don't have any because it's a high demand piece....

Good luck.

If it is your PCM here is a very good resource for a PCM replacement.
Auto Computer Exchange - Auto Computer Superstore - Cheaper than dealers and mechanics.

Car-part.com is a great source for PCM's.

List of PCM Codes. Any PCM from 99-01 will work for you, try to find an NVK4 if you can.

Trouble maker.

Try some of the wrecking yards for a PCM... Should be able to get something there, anything from 99.5-2001 auto will work, dont let them tell you it has to be the same year, or code or else...

I still dont think its your PCM but who knows.

bluescrew, hopefully you get this sorted soon, I can only imagine how frustrating this must be. Check all the fuses over religiously, quintuple check all the wiring connections, and take it from there. I'm guessing whatever the problem is will make you slap your forehead and think "how the EFF did I not think of that?" but who knows.

I almost lost $600 to those guys. Check google for complaints and check BBB.

Auto Computer Exchange, Inc. Business Review in Davie, FL - South East Florida BBB

I am not sure but I suspect they also use other names.

A fried PCM will disable the scanner port.

The scanner talks to the PCM. The PCM isn't taking visitors anymore cause it's dead.

My PCM had some sort of hiccup inside it. The only warning was two weeks previous; the fuel pump burned out and after replacement the truck spent those two weeks hiccuping. That was followed by three days of false hope and easy driving, then KAPUT, coasting to the side of the road in sadness and broken trust.

Not trusting my truck is a horrible feeling.
