how can I integrate brake lights into a wiring harness? I wired it all up but the brakes on the trailer won’t light up.. also I’m working on my 1981 evinrude 50 that’s been sitting for 2 years.. I recently got it going again but it sat with the motor in the upright position so I dropped it to the lowers running position and oils began leaktout of the small weep hole by the water intake.. I to the drain plug out and pure water drained for a few seconds then watery oil... ideas?

 

That lower unit looks ruff, you been mowing the grass with it, or what? I never saw a skeg that looked like that either, they're usually a good bit bigger than that and not pointy on the bottom.

All that aside, I'm not following where the water came from, did it come out of the lower unit, or out of the water intake?

 

You have been a little hard on the Beaver here Wally....That lower unit has been through some rocks.
If you have not changed the water pump in two years I would do that first.The pump housing seal is probably leaking water into the oil if the lower unit had milky water in it when you pulled the lower drain plug.

 

Trailer brake lights are the same as the turn signals, same wires, same bulb filaments. If you have turn you should have brake....unless you're towing it with a vehicle set up for independent lighting which is fairly rare, or the vehicle has a problem.

Gear oil getting into the water system, bad seal. My first guess is the seal under the water pump. Get that prop fixed or replaced before you start running it, a bad prop can cause problems in the lower unit. A skeg guard is a 'bolt on' option for the skeg, they can also be weld repaired.

What area do you live in?

 

If your trailer requires a pure stop-light signal, there is a lt green wire about 5" long hanging out of the harness at the LR of the truck with all the other lighting and trailer-tow connectors. On my 99, it is just taped-off. This lt grn wire is hot with brake pedal depressed. Same circuit as the cab-mounted high level stop light.
