I know I've seen a few posts where some were using a rubber bed mat with the fifth wheel prep package by cutting round holes in the mat to allow the hitch legs to pass through the mat. I'm considering on of those BedRug mats as a friend has one and it has held up very well for the last 3 years so I'm wondering if anyone has used one with the factory hitch prep and/or if someone who has used a mat with the prep could post photos of the mat installed with the hitch in or out of the bed? I'm trying to picture how large of a hole would have to be cut to allow the hitch legs to pass through.

No pictures but I used a 4" hole saw to cut the matt. That gave clearence of the whole rubber insert around the pin, thus the matt laying flat and clearence to slide a piece of plywood in without knocking the pin cover off.

 

I just did this last weekend. I cut the mat with a razor knife trying to get it the size of the whole in the bed. 1st hole was a little to big. Second was a pretty good fit. Third and fourth I just slit the rug and pushed the pins through. 3&4 are a perfect fit. I just did the same thing with my in bed 5th wheel plug last night.

Long story short cut the holes smaller then you need them they will stretch around the pins.
