Torque Converter Replacement

I went to my local shop to see how much they would charge for the replacement of the torque converter and this is what I got. Just to repalce the converter $1400 in change the second came to $2000 in change with checking the trans,a one year warrenty and the thrid was $3000 in change and trans rebuild, Three year warrenty. So dose this sound right or are they trying to take me for a ride.

Thanks

The 1400 is about what I would expect for just a TC replacement... Not sure what's included in the 2000 "checking the trans" but seems a bit steep. The 3000 for a rebuild is pretty spot on for a cheap local factory spec rebuild.

What are your plans for the truck? Any mods?

That sounds right for a shop to change the TC. i was qouted at 1200 to 1300 for them to do it on my truck about a month ago. idk what TC they would put in it tho, but i would rather buy a racerx triple disc TC and tranny jack and save myself $500.

Thanks for the input guys. the whole thing with the trans is weather the TC blew up enough to send metal into the trans, so one price is to pull and check it the higher is to do a complete rebuild since it is out. The TC he is going to use is a buillet proof one according to him he dose service a fleet of 450's and 350's so he sould know what to use.

Having been in your situation and knowing now what I didn't know then. Spend the extra money if you can afford it and go BTS, John Wood or RacerX. Not that your shop won't do a good job. Not that the shop that did mine did a bad job. But knowing down to last part what exactly is in your tranny and the peace of mind knowing you have the best in the business is way worth it.
My two cents anyway.

I'm with Pete 110%. I've rebuilt my trans twice now. The first time was with a long time friend who ran a trans shop. He assured me that I would get the best of what is available. 20K miles later I blew that one up only to be stranded in a small town place with a time frame to be someplace else. I picked what I thought was the best of the best and paid extra for a tipple disk TC. I've got 35K on this one and it seems to be going good. I paid $4,500 for two rebuilds, the price of one really good one of the ones Pete mentioned. If I blow this one up I'm getting one of the three no matter what!

You're talkin about Bryan. Not Bryant... I'll take Bryan any day of the week, he can't row gears faster than my auto can shift and I know I make more power than his 276 @ 1800* LOL
