Driving an '11 Screw FX4 5.0 with about 3,000 on it and commenting to get updates to the post. I've noticed the same issue, and sometimes on a slow decel too. Really noticed it after first tow of about 6-6,500 lbs, 200 miles at 62mph, exiting, stopping at bottom of ramp then pulling away. Holy (&@*! thought I broke something! Truck had plenty of power no complaints there. It reminds me of my other Fords with LS rearends when the dope was going away / ready for a change. Or if it was changed and the Ford friction modifier additive wasn't added - a shudder. Be interesting to see if there's any relation to the driveshaft. My old F350 Crew Longbed 4X never shuddered like this.

Thanks for keeping us up to date JustJimmy

I feel a little bit of this in my 09 Screw 4x4 5.4L with the 5.5' box, but not bad. Just bought it used with 24K miles on it. I haven't towed yet, but will in about a week. To me it almost feels a little bit like you let out the clutch on a manual and the engine is stuttering a little bit (don't think that it is tho). Subscribing to watch and see what the resolution is.

My Dad has been posting in this thread (Wandering Elk). He has an '09 SCREW w/ the 6.5ft bed. Simlar shudder problem to what's described here, most noticeable under a load (while towing). He went with me to check out the '11s. The sales rep we were with used to be a Ford tech. We were able to duplicate the problem quite easily by doing a brake stance. If you bring the RPMs up moderately with your foot on the brake while in drive and then slowly let off of the brake (but not all the way) with the RPMs still up, this is a good way to simulate the vehicle under load w/o actually having a trailer behind you. The shudder was very noticeable under these conditions and is an easy way to duplicate for the service dept. I would be curious how many people here an duplicate this scenario using this test.

Well - I just got back from the Ford dealer and they told me the steering wheel and gas pedal vibration I was experiencing was "normal". The tech drove another truck on the lot and it had the same problem. The dealership contacted Ford's hotline and they told me there is nothing they can do...they didn't even attempt to reflash the transmission.

First the sync system locks up with my USB drive and now steering wheel vibrations. The quality of my 2011 F150 doesn't stack up to my 2002 F150. Ford's responses for both the sync problem and the steering shudder are **** poor in my opinion.

Ford needs to step up their game...this is getting ridiculous.

Looks like this problem will take a while for someone to figure out. I'll just keep taking it back until they resolve or until someone out there has luck figuring out the issue.

In the meantime... there's one nice thing that happened because of the tranny service... when they re-flashed the TCM, the 1-6 shift display stays up all the time now. I don't have to turn it on anymore.

Woo Hoo (I guess)

I feel for you guys , I am going through the same thing with my 2010 Expedition. Ford could care less about correcting the problem. I now own a $53,000 piece of crap. See my posts about the many problems that I have had since day 1. Mine goes back into the shop tomorrow for a mechatronic unit at a cost of $ 3000.00 . Problem started at 800 miles and 10 visits later I have 10,000 miles and what a nightmare this vehicle has been. I will jump off of a cliff before even considering buying another Ford product and this is my third Ford truck

Are there any Ford factory people or dealer service people who could shed some light on this? I'm sure there must be some monitoring of this site.

Does anyone have a 6.5 ft bed in a 2010 or 2011 that pulls a trailer who doesn't have this shudder?

I don't pull anything with my 6.5' and the shudder is present at about 3mph or 5kph, but it quickly goes away as I accelerate.

I have a 2011 SCREW 5.5' bed with the 3.73 elocker. It is going in tonight to have a howl in the rear checked.
But to the point, Mine has this when cold, shudder from start in first. My cure, turn off the damn traction control. The shudder goes away to the point I do not notice it. It does feel like a poorly adjusted choke, for those old enough to know. The engine seems to have a slight bog. That is also the sign of a miss, classic misdiagnosis of a blown first gear in an a-matic.

My old 2007 silverado had this problem. It seems the manufacturers are now adding a soft blow to the throttle map for these electronically controlled motors that leads to the shudder and crappy low speed throttle response. The chevy did not have the switch, but my wonderful for does. The manufacturers call this feature torque management. It is designed to reduce the load on the drivetrain and stop breaking weak parts they do not want to beef up. This would fit with the old hesitation problem an ignition miss will create at take off. Have this in my 2000 gmc 5.3l but am not in the mood to chase it with lots of expensive parts.

The other cause could be the torque converter locking and unlocking as the PCM adjusts the setting to get the truck moving. This would be a design flaw.

And if you live in NJ, send a letter to FORD about having the truck fixed twice to no avail and giving them a third chance. The third chance is the first step to a lemon law process on the truck. Been through it with a SATURN.

Sach 394 I installed the airlifts on my 2009 F150 C/C. Towed my trailer 7000# last week. It is about 80% better. The cost was about $400 for parts. Self installed. Still needs traction bar for spring wrap. TSB 09-22-12 &PCM&TCM reflashed to new calibration on 11/30/09.Did not fix problem. FOMOCO does not have a fix. I have driven Fords for 50+ yrs. Bought new 04 f250 D S/C, 06 f250 V10 S/C 09 f150 C/C 6.5 box all4x4. $100,000+. Will not buy another Ford if does not find a fix. Problem has been present for 3 yrs. and no solution.

Had mine at the dealer Tuesday, they couldn't find anything of course. They got in touch with engineering & want me to bring it back in next week for a day or two so they can do more checking, pinion angles, etc. They acknowledged others are having the same problem. I'll update when I know more.

Just going to throw this out there, these trucks have always had issues with the E-brake slightly hanging up due to rusty parts. Could it be possible with the longer springs that they are starting to slightly hang up and it is manifesting as a low speed shudder until it is overcome by friction. I had an 04 and an 07 that both did this only on them it showed up at about 20 mph and was a very strong shudder. On my 04 it was so bad you felt as if you were going to loose control of the truck. The 07 was not as bad, but these trucks had the older shorter springs. Maybe due to the newer springs the issue is showing up earlier and less intense due to the more flexible springs. I seen someone was able to replicate the issue by manually holding on the brake? If this would be the problem it is a simple clean and lube issue for the dealer, worth a try? Also I lived in PA then, road salt really makes things rust!

Post your info if having the problem

Lets start working on a list to try and narrow down what trucks and conditions these trucks are in. Just copy and paste the list and add your truck and re-post. Make sure to put location, winter road salt can cause much havoc!

Example: 2011 Scab 6.5 bed, 4X2, 3.5L EB, 3.15 rears, Florida, present only while towing. (never seen salt or salt water!)
