Hi I have a 96 F150, manual transmission, 4.9L. I have an aftermarket tach bolted on the steering column but I would really like to swap out my gauge cluster for one with a tach (minus the speedometer/ odometer). I was just wondering if the replacement gauge cluster needs to be out of another 96 or will other years work as well. I have heard that because its a 96, it is digital instead of analog.

 

To swap the clusters, it goes 1992-93, 1994-95, 1996-97HD IIRC....

And also, IIRC, you have to do a lil bit of wiring...Ask Conanski...To be sure..

 

I don't know about the 6cyl units, but I swapped the tach cluster out of a '97 7.5L XLT into my '97 5.8L XL. It was completely plug-n-play. The odometer is digital, but made no difference. I could simply swap my speedo module into the tach cluster, or use the one that came in the tach cluster, depending on what mileage I wanted.
