400 water pump/damper replacement questions
Need some help.In the process of replacing water pump and damper in my 1978 F250 with 400 engine.I have both removed and I'm wondering about resealing the plate between them and the engine.Best way to remove crank seal?Is there a gasket for the plate? Will I need to replace part of the oil pan gasket?
I'm also having problems finding a replacment damper, this is the part number on one I'm replacing #D7TE-BA
Thanks

Damper Doctor rebuilds harmonic balancers with new rubber, and they allow a value for your old one. They also do drive shaft center bearing supports and motor mounts.

Looks like a D7TE-BA would be their # FOR3512

Plate has to seal against block, to prevent oil leaks and to seal coolant passeges for water pump. Two dowel pins locate the plate, there is a gasket between the plate and block as well as one between the water pump and plate. I use weatherstrip adhesive on these.
Seal is simply removed from plate and new one installed with plate removed. Do not bend the plate. New ones are available in steel or maybe aluminum, etc.
