A new problem..... I was using my 79 with power discs to haul a load of busted up concrete to the dump.... Actually two.... It did great.... But ever since then I have noticed that when I engage the brakes to stop once I stop the pedal will drop a little stopped when I am stopped.... I don't think it did that before.... I would like to think that I damaged the mc when I was hauling.... But it could have worn out on it's own..... I am thinking I have a bad mc.....
Wanted to know how to diagnose that so I don't just replace stuff that isn't bad.... And if there is an easy swap to a newer style with the plastic resevior the old metal ones with the rubber gasket always seem to end up leaking... Thanks
But ever since then I have noticed that when I engage the brakes to stop once I stop the pedal will drop a little when I am stopped.
That's usually indicative of a faulty MC, could also be a leaky wheel cylinder, brake line, etc. so rule those out first, do yourself a favor and spend the extra 20 bucks and buy a new MC, not a reman'd MC, there's nothing more annoying than having to do the job 2 or 3 times because you got a bum MC.
Don't mean to hijack here but what about a pedal that doesn't return?? Brakes work fine but the pedal is hard to pull up let alone come back by itself, booster??
Sorry Boba Fett!
Not to hijack the thread, but I'm having similar problems. I had the master cylinder and booster changed about 2 years ago (don't know if they were new or re-man) and about a week ago I changed my front pads, rotors, brake lines and now my master cylinder is leaking. I think it is leaking around the cap seal and running down at the center of the booster. Should I attempt to find another cap or go about replacing the whole thing? btw the brake fluid looks horrible, so i'm going to bleed it all out if i can. I've never changed a master cylinder before but after spending as much as I have on these brakes I want them to be fixed right!
