Radiator question

I just picked up a new radiator. The old one in the truck has 2 hose attachments at the bottom and the drain. The new one has the 2 hose attachments, drain, and 2 other threaded input/outputs. If I didn't already have a tranny cooler, I would assume that those are for that. Any ideas what they are? Is it ok to just leave them open?

Thanks for any input.

Jason

Sounds like you got a radiator with the otw cooler going through the radiator. They started adding them sometime in 2000.

Can I just leave them empty or do I need to run the lines to them?

OTW cooler in the radiator is another transmission cooler in series with the other cooler. I wouldn't think it would hurt anything if you just capped the lines but not 100% sure. Probably be better to run supply line to the radiator cooler then output to the stock trans cooler and back to the transmission or see if you can return it and get the right one. The return line on the transmission is the rear one.

It does not matter which side you use for input or output. On the transmission the front line is supply and rear is return. It might be easier to come off the return line of the stock transmission cooler to the otw rad. cooler and then return to transmission. So you would be going to stock ota cooler then to rad. otw cooler and retuning to transmission. It doesn't matter which cooler you go to first just use whatever is easiest. Also make sure you use some 3/8 inch line that is compatible with oil. Regular fuel hose isn't. I picked up some from a local hydraulic shop.

IIRC the drivers side is the in, and pass side is the out. Like Grant said It prob doesn't matter, but I added the same radiator to my truck. The extra cooler (otw) sure helps keep it cool.

Ford routed the lines go to the radiator first, then to the cooler, and back to the trans incase you decide to do it., but again it prob doesn't matter.

It is not really high pressure. I'm not sure on the exact spec but I used some line that was rated at 100 psi.

this is an upgrade alot of people install to help with cooling the transmission, another option you can do is get ahold of parts guy ed and he can sell you the oem lines to hook everything up. another upgrade while you are in there is to install the 6.0 tranny cooler.

The passenger side on the radiator is in and the drivers is the out, and you should go thru the radiator first them thru the tranny cooler. Otherwise you will be rewarming the cooled off tranny fluid.

Ok. I think I got all of the tranny stuff. Now I can't get the heater hoses off of the core at the firewall. Is there a special tool?

if they are original 99 razor blade them and replace they are not to much and then your good for another 12 years.ive seen alot of people mess up there heater core trying to remove the hoses . cheaper and easier to replace the hoses than the core.
