I was told that this forum is the place to find correct information I need about what primers to use.I am currently using DUPONT (uro 1140 s) on my sheet metal for my 54 F100. However,I also have a FAIRLANE nose which is fiberglass.can I use the same primer on the glass pieces as well. You know this stuff is not cheap, but I don,t want prublems in a few months.thanks in advance.
When we say primer we mean a coating that inhibits rust and aids in promoting adhesion. When we say primer surfacer we mean a coating with a it's primary function to provide a high build surface to reduce sandscratches and minor surface imperfections (small waves in sheet metal).
So, if someone says primer then I'm thinking epoxy primer or maybe zinc chromate primer. There would be no benefit to using a primer on a fibreglass header panel. If on the other hand you are using a primer surfacer than I would suggest yes. You dont need lots, maybe 2 coats. And yest it is expensive. To reduce costs try spraying things in batches. You will waste less and use less materials (thinners) cleaning up the gun after.
Sorry about that link. I have no idea where it came from. Someone has programed certain words to automatically generate links. I THOUGHT ADVERTISING WAS PROHIBITED AT THIS WEB PAGE?
You're right about the links. The links are to FTE's online store and are geared towards most commonly asked for products so that we don't have to continually tell people to look through the online store.
