How did you repaint timing marks?

Since I'm having difficulty deciphering a code 213 on my beast, I thought it would be wise to check to see if the computer is actually advancing the timing as it should be. I have a timing light but need to repaint the timing marks before I can check.

Just wondering how you did it and what type of paint you used. I've heard of some guys using white out and getting good results- if that worked for anybody here I'd like to hear about it.

White out, paint stick, soapstone, masking tape, etc.....It doent really matter as long as you can see it with the timing light

I usually use one of those white or yellow paint pens, and on the balancer I don't paint the mark itself - I paint around the area (cleaning and degreasing first), and then use a scribe to re-make the mark within the painted area. This makes the original mark both highly visible and accurate as well. Painting a 1/8" or wider line for your mark can add a couple of degrees of slop to the setting.

Whiteout works great. All you need to mark is TDC and then 10 degrees...don't worry about all the others.
