Have you got your first scratch yet. I decided to skip the scratch and just go straight to damage.
385 Miles, I dropped the trailer on the ball then locked it, but it must not have been seated on the ball.
Pulled it out of the shop and started driving my rock crawler on the trailer when it popped off the ball and took out my tail gate.
OUCH! thats a $700 mistake.
See that's what you get for towing before the 1000 mile break in
I've got the Tuxedo Black paint and have learned that it's a pretty tender paint. Scratches and chips very easily. I had a cat that liked to sit on the warm hood. As she jumped up, she would scramble with her hind legs and it's left a bunch of scratchs on the side of the front fender.
Better a tailgate than part of the box itself. Sucks for sure but could be worse as well. At least you can just replace the part and not have to deal with major bodywork.
I actually do have a scratch though but I think mine can buff out.
I got an idea. I see you are into rock climbing. Now that your tailgate is already damaged, can you put your rig on that articulation rig and really see if the tailgate will bend like that stupid GM commercial?
Seriously, sorry to see the damage. What is the most sickening thing to see is that you still have the stupid dealer ad in your license plate holder! You don't even have the permanent plate!
I did the exact same thing with my '04. First week I had it. I was just stupid and forgot to lock the trailer before driving my tractor on the trailer. Hoping not to do that when I get my '12.
I did the same thing about a month ago. I was just tired and hooked the safety chains and not the ball. Luckily the trailer just slid under the bumper, but then it got wedged.
All I can say is..I'm Sorry. This is coming from someone who is Very **** about his truck. My 2007 had one scratch on it. Caused by another person in a parking lot. One small scratch in 3 years. I showed everyone. Most were like ..."WHERE?" I had to point it out, most of the time. If I were you I would just die. My truck as of now gets washed once a week inside and out.
Get it fixed soon,...seeing your damage is really bugging me also.
Here's my second dent that came from my ATV snow plow last fall. I had the blade inside the bed but the rails hanging out the side of the bed. Later as I pulled into the garage the rails caught the side of the house and spun the blade into the back of the bed. DOH!
And this little one was my first. While towing my brother's '94 Explorer by strap, I left the tailgate down so I could see better what was going on behind me. At one point we turned off the road and bounced the tailgate. I thought nothing of it until we reached our destination and I found the tailgate had come off the pin on the right side and was wedged on the cylindrical mounting thing. Took a fair bit of force to reposition it correctly. Bent the bottom lip of the tailgate and rubbed a small hole in the paint.
No damage or scratches yet, but I do have some small rock chips near the bottom of the front doors. Time for some touch up paint before I give the truck a coating of Rejex.
