Need help identifying axle

Its on a Ford F-250 (1977) Highboy. i was told it was a Dana60. The numbers im getting off it are D71A and 610010 the other numbers are kinda faded. Any ideas? I believe the previous owner said soemthing about it being from a jeep maybe?

* was also told its 4.11's and it is an 8 Lug Axle.

Check the bolts on the cover. Dana44 will be 1/2" and Dana60 will be 9/16". If you have stock sized tires you can count how many times the driveshaft rotates per one revolution of the tires to figure ratio. Ex: Driveshaft turns a little over 4 times for one rotation of wheel=4.11.

If you're tires are a different size, post what size they are and how many times the d-shaft turned and I can figure it out for ya.

Just out of curiosity, what's the gear ratio for a D44, a D60 and a D70?

I know they represent the gear ratio in the name, but I don't know what the exact gear ratios are for each.

And what would mine be called? It's a 2.75 ratio.

It would be called a 2.75 ratio. lol Couldn't resist.

Every axle is available with different ratios. So if you need a lower ratio (numerically higher) say for large tires, you don't have to get a new axle, just a different ratio gear.
