Ive been looking into BB/OD swaps, and I thought there was an article in the back of Hot Rod mag (or maybe popular hot rodding, I get both) within the last year or so where someone wrote in asking about putting an OD behind a big block. I thought they said that Ford had a non-computer controlled automatic OD with the BB bellhousing pattern in like 90-92 before switching to electronic OD. Any truth to this? From what Im reading, I must be mistaken.

Full-size trucks first received the huge E4OD (Electronic 4 speed OverDrive) transmission in 1989. Internally, it is essentially a C-6 with overdrive added to the front and an EEC controlled valve body.
Quoted from the Baumann website. Correct me if Im wrong, but it sounds like from this and others Ive read that there was no heavy duty non-electronic OD. Ive looked at the site, but it doesnt show any prices for electronic controllers. Anyone know roughly how much?
There's an article, in the article section about overdrive for a bronco, that uses the AOD, an all mechanical trans from 1980-1991 for 6cyl, and small block V-8's in cars and trucks (cant remember exact years).
Stock form they are considered fairly weak behind a stock engine, from what Ive heard. However they can be built strong $$. They can be adapted to bigblocks $$, either cut off the bellhousing and attach a custom bell straight to the pump retaining bolts, with custom pump, or adapter plates.
I have the adapter bell, and custom pump and would like to try this out one day if I ever catch up moneywise.
Currently I have highway gears, which isn't the best for some offroading, but seem to have enough torque to get me by.
The C6 is soo good, and cheap to rebuild, its tough to beat, and takes a beating.
Trans problems arent fun.
