Tranny Question, options for 5 speed swap
#16
I have a 87 WC-T5 in my 69 short bed behind a 302, I was able to use the stock crossmember for the rear mount on the transmission and even the stock mount. The truck had a 3 speed on the collum factory. You need to find some mustang guys in your area, you should be able to pick one up for 100-150 used. I just made a mount and used the stock clutch pedal and a mustang clutch quad for the cable. If you want some pictures for ideas I can take some when I get home tommarow for you.
My email addy for pics is joeycarpunk@yahoo.com
Thanks, Joel

yes- i have one still out. i will try to get some pics tonight.
my personal opinion...for that kind of money, you can throw another $100 at it and get one that's already rebuilt. i paid between $300-400 for the 2 used ones i picked up.

Ive had a few transmissions in my 37 ford truck with a 302 first i a had the srod which is sort of like a top loader but gear set is changed so its a 3 speed with 4th overdrive. I swapped that out for a t-5 5 speed you just need to get the bell housing form a fox body mustang with the 5.0 in it. You don't need a hyd clutch i just adapted the cable to my pedals. (I hate the t-5s had 3 of them die in my fords) After being stuck on side of interstate when t-5 died i spent the money for a tremec tko no comparison to the t5 The tko uses the same bell as the toploader shifts so much nicer. Before you go out a and buy an adapter to put the t-5 onto your bell either get a 5.0 bell housing from the junkyard i got mine for 50$ or consider the tko bolted up with just a change of clutch to a 26 spline.

I swapped a Tremec TKO-500 into my '70 F100 with a 360FE.
Read my Lo Buck Bumpside build thread... details in there. It is linked in my signature.

Wow this is an old thread.
For what its worth- I bought the adapter and put the T5 behind my original 300 bellhousing.
Driveshaft mods were also required (its been so long i can't remember, but i think it needed to be longer). I tore out the 2-piece and just had a 1-piece built. The "custom" crossmember is a piece of 1/4" angle iron. You'll need to fab up some sort of mount. Mine's nothing to write home about.
It all worked out pretty well.

I'm considering this swap using a '92-'93 5.0l V8 Mustang World Class T-5 Transmission with adapter from modern driveline. The reason you need this one is because of the Input Shaft Length.
I'm having problems finding part number (tag number) for this 5-speed trans, can anyone help? My computer search skills suck, too much info, I don't want to acquire something I can't use.
Thanks, Joel

FRPP (Ford Racing Performance Parts) AKA Ford Motorsport new tranny is part number M7003Z. Their part number on a stock Mustang (with cable operated clutch) bell housing is M6392E. They used to carry a steel "safety" bell housing. Part number M6392C. Block to bell spacer plate is M7007B. While FRPP does list a 164 tooth flywheel, the only one I've ever sold was 157 tooth flywheels. Part number M6375A302B. Billet steel. Pre-1981 302. 28.2 oz-in. Part number for FRPP H.D. Mustang 10.5" diaphragm style clutch is M7560A302N. 10 spline clutch kit includes disc, pressure plate, and T/O bearing. Pilot bearing is part number M7600A. Adjustable cable and quadrant kit is part number M7553B302. Clutch fork part number M7515A. Blue anodized aluminum topside cable adjuster is M7554A. This fits in the hole you will out in the firewall and the cable passes through it.
M6392C is shown at:

If you're going to install a T-5, '90-'93 5.0L Mustangs are the best source, if aquiring wrecking yard parts.
Gear alloys were improved in the 1990 T-5s and reverse was also synchronized to stop it from grinding when moving the shifter into reverse.
2.3L Fox Mustang T-5s will have a very low 1st gear (around 3.97:1 and a .79:1 overdrive ratio) compared to a 5.0L LX/GT T-5 with a 3.35:1 1st gear (overdrive is .68:1). '93 Cobra/Z-spec T-5 will have a 2.95:1 1st gear (overdrive is .63:1). The 2.3L T-5 will also have a smaller I.D. input shaft pilot bearing so, better to stay away from the 2.3L version.
