9" spring plates in a 49

I know this should be fairly self explanatory but I guess I am having a dumb moment. i am talking about the plates that go on top of the springs to bolt the rearend in. I can't tell which way is up and which way is down. Can someone help with some pics? I don't have stock springs I have posies, if that makes a diffrence.

If you still have the stock spring plates you ought to see where the original ubolts sat. There should be very shallow grooves for the top of the ubolt to sit in. I'm wondering if you don't have the original plates as it should very obvious. I have posies rear springs also but they are the same width as the stock springs so the springs won't matter the top plate should be about the same width as the springs.

EDIT: I just reread your title and it says 9 inch rear. So your top plates may be wider than your springs I've taken a grinder and reduced their width to be the same as the springs. I used the F2 lower bracket when putting the nine inch in my truck and the ubolts are spaced out farther so you will want to use the 9 inch top plate and not your original stock plate.

If the plates are flat it doesn't matter.

If they have grooves pressed into the outer edges the u-bolts sit in the grooves.

It they have raised ledges the u-bolts sit inboard the barrier to keep from slipping off.

Cool thanks guys. I'll have a look when I get home. They are not the original plates so I guess I will look for grooves.
