1976 F100 Resto build
#16
No progress lately. We had what some are calling a tornado rip through last month and it ripped the power supply off the shop and I have been pulling daylight to dark hours for about the last month at work, but as soon as electrical service is restored I hope to accomplish alot.

Sorry for not updating the thread regularly. I have been pulling alot of OT.I have just about finished all the body work on the cab and front clip. I also recently purchased a 351W and tranny to install in the truck. I will post pics when time allows and I will also try to update the thread regularly as time allows

Hi Everyone. I thought I would just post a quick update on the truck. I managed to get half the Cab painted before my air compressor decided to blow a diaphragm. I picked up the 351W today and started removing the smog pumps and AC compressor. Now I just need to track down a decent four barrel carb and decide what parts need to be used and what parts do not. I will have a list of parts for sale and some to give away like the smog pumps in the near future. Now if only my part for my air compressor will arrive I will be set.
I hope everyone has a wonderful evening.

Thanks. I already have a 76 grille and inserts in good shape but my brother may be interested in it for his 78 bronco. I'll check with him. I am located in Rockmart which is about a 3 hour drive from Savannah.

I finally got the 351 and trans installed in the truck, which opened a whole new can of worms. Apparently the output shaft on the 86 model trans in larger than the original C6. I have searched the local scrapyards for a front yoke and complete driveshaft and haven't had any luck. So i guess i will pull out the new trans and replace it with the C6 until i can locate a driveshaft to fit properly. Does anyone own an 86 E150 that would be willing to take a few photos so I know exactly what I am looking for.

Are they both C6's? There were a couple different length tail shafts on them. I think most of the transmission that went into cars had the longer tail shafts...there was also a difference depending on the year. I think anything older then the mid 70's had the shorter. I may, and probably do, have those specifics mixed up, going off what I have read at one point. But there were differences.

I am not sure if both are C6's or not. They look the same but the only identification tag i can find on the late model trans is a Jasper tag. The tailshafts are the same legnth just the output shafts are different diameters. The diameter of the known C6 is 1" as to where the late model output shaft is 1 3/8" in diameter.

One other question I have is, since i have removed all the smog parts is it safe to remove the EGR valve and plate from underneath the carb? Will it cause any problems as far as the actual performance of the vehicle or hurt the engine?

Thanks. That will at least help me identify what trans i am dealing with and steer me in the right direction of what i need to look for.

This is not by accident, it is by design, NOx is a by product of combustion, the higher the temperature...the more NOx. I work in the Gas Turbine industry and we abate NOx by doing the same, lowering flame temperature. We do it by othere means but the same principal...lower the flame temperture some how.
With all that said, there are many that will claim that without the EGR, combustion temperature is higher and therefore will harm your engine. I do not run it on my engine and have no problems. You will though have to get some type of kit to do it correctly. If you simply remove the plate, you end up with a hole that will blow hot gases out. They sell EGR delete plates, that's the way to go.
But, also, running the EGR does not hurt performance, so best bet is to keep it working properly. If functioning correctly, it should only be recircing hot gases at idle and low rpm...when you get on it, it does not.
