You have to remove the light assembly from the headliner. Pop off the dome light lense and there are a couple screws. I forget what bulbs are in there.

While your doing this, you can upgrade to a more modern dome light which was available in 96 trucks. It was also used in newer Superduty, Mustang, Taurus, etc.

I did this and like it much better than the dim yellow chrome one. You can get one from a salvage yard for not much. They come in most colors and in black.

ok im gonna stick to the chrome one I have for now as I kinda like the stock look (gonna make more of a sleeper truck) so that way people assume its stock and slow and really sluggish and then let the truck do what it does best get up and go like a bat outa hell had a sleeper ford vic that would suprise even the people that had turbos and what not lol!! not much of a gear head tho but i do under stand a lot of different things!! Thanks for the info!!

Thats why I upgraded to this one, it looks factory and was for 96 OBS F150. Its even listed in the NPD and/or LMC catalog for our trucks. It would only be black though.

oh, well I guess the black would be ok as some of the trim in Sandy is black already so it would match, would it use the same bulbs as whats already in my truck or would i need to compleatly replace the lamp thing plus all bulbs and bulb sockets?

Its all one assembly so when you get the new light just use the bulbs that are in it. You can get one from the salvage yard for about 15-20 bucks. They are also on Ebay.

I know the gray on mine looks a tad off, but that only shows up with the camera flash. During the day it looks the same.

Lol I dont think a newer style dome light is going to give away a "sleeper"

Why do you say its a sleeper?

But yes listen to Texas with the dome light.

It actually came out of the rear of a 2000ish crew cab super duty. The map light lense is slighty different to help angle the light down since the back of the cab makes the light angle upward. If you can't find tan, just get a black one. Thats what 96 trucks like ours had, no color option.
