door weatherstripping
Discovered rust behind the weather strip at the bottom of my driver's door - just a reminder to ya'll - clean btw the strip & the door or mud and crud will accumulate and that traps moisture ='g rust.
Got the weather strip off (it's fine just dirty) and fixed the rust on the bottom of the door but a couple of the plastic clips that hold the strip to the door broke - any idea where I could get replacements?
Assume a call to a stealer will only result in having to order a complete replacement weatherstrip. The local auto stores sell "generic" plastic clips which are all too big. Looked @ the local junk yard and they had a few SD doors but all were missing the weather strip @ the bottom. Don't want to go too long w/o the strip in place or mud and crud will "un-do" my new paint job.

Be careful about removing them - they protect the bottom of the door. W/o them that area will get packed with mud and the lower part of the b pillar will be exposed to rock chips. I had my drivers side off for about a month and regretted it - ended up having to paint the area below the inner weatherstrip (one around the whole door) due to rock damage. If you're a city dweller who rarely goes off road you probably can get away with leaving them off as long as your not in snow country.

I removed both of these strips on my F550 when I herculined the bottom of the doors, door sills, and rockers. There's quite a draft coming up around the inside door handle when on the highway, and I wonder how much of the crud from the road is getting up inside the door as well. I'll definitely be putting them back on that truck. Probably won't seal as well with the herculiner, but it's better than nothing.
