I don't see any way you're going to make a 24 volt compressor work on a 12V system, beyond a really heavy duty 120V power inverter, then a 120V to 24V converter. You're going to lose a lot of juice that way.
Welcome to the forum!
I once had a 6 volt Volkswagon pick-up truck. For better starting, I bought a relay from JC Whitney that would put two batteries in series when the starter was switched on, giving the entire system 12 volts for starting. As soon as you released the key from the start position, it put the batteries back to parallel. So much for all that, cause I can't think of any way you could wire it so that only the compressor gets the double voltage. MAYBE with some very heavy duty diodes it could be done. Try posting down in the electrical forum, one of those guys might have a method.
Good luck!
How is he going to charge those? And isolate them from the rest of the system? 24V into a 12V system would be bad news.
I wasn't thinking about charging them LOL..
Depends how easy it has to be..
You could use some of those boat switches and an isolator.
When you aren't using the compressor an isolator will keep the two batteries charged but no using the 24v. When you want 24v you turn a double pole double throw switch changing the ground of the second battery to the pos of the first. And the second pole disconnects the charging circut to the 2nd battery that comes from the isolator. And wala..24 volts. When you are done using it turn the switch back and both batts will charge..
Best if you had one sw for this..Also hook up the ground for the compressor to the frame and the hot to the 2nd battery. The first battery won't even know the second one is there.. http://www.yandina.com/troll24info.htm Sounds like this will work for you..Maybe best choice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Or you could just wire up the second battery in series and use a stealth battery charger to charge the second battery when the engine is running. No switches no isolators. http://www.semarine.com/store/produc...=64&bestseller pricey....Maybe just get a 12v compressor...LOL
