3.73 gears was not an option in these 1/2 ton trucks so don't bother looking in the scrapyard for it, they don't exist. 4.10 was an option but it was rare compared to the other ratios. 3.73s would be about ideal overall and not totally kill fuel milage assuming the truck has an auto overdrive transmission, if it has a manual then this trailer is beyond it's capacity so gearing is irrelevent.

I have a 95 F150 straight 6 manual with a 4.10 rear and let me tell you, if this is your everyday driver your going to regret it. The 4.10 is great for towing, but don't expect to do over 55 in the highway. Most of the time i don't even start off in first because its all power and no speed. I fill up about once a week for a 16 mile a day commute mostly highway and some city and country roads.
