I don't think anyone is arguing and it doesn't seem to be too hard to follow. The OP was stating information that could potentially cause someone to buy the wrong parts, so if we can straighten out the details maybe we can save someone the hassle. You are obviously very concerned with the outcome because you have come back now twice to comment. Ifthe thread causes you so much angst, how about just not read it?

LOL, I see this isnt easily understood by you non the lease. My point was what a no big deal, I have seen both of the common and I think there are only two of them unless you install one completly different on your own. Being said, if there are two models of roof racks, then it doesnt take a genius to figure it out, its like putting the positive cable on the positive and the same for the negative.

The way I see it I would rather not have the roof rack as the truck would have cleaner lines without it.
Which is best? Rack A or rack B? Or no rack at all?
Does anybody really care?

I myself dont even use the style I have on my 98 so I would rather not even have it screwed on. This brings up a question Moto Mel, is there anything to look out for if you wanted to completely take it off, as in leaks. thanks.

I have not taken one off of my trucks as yet. i imagine there will be screw holes that will leak if not sealed. I think some cadmium or stainless cap screws would do the job of filling the holes. I would wrap the threads 3 times with teflon tape to keep water out of the threads. A real close examination would be in order first as more sealing may be needed than just the teflon. You try it and let us know the results.

If yours leaks I won't do mine.

If you are going to rant about genius, you should check your grammar and spelling first, it makes for a stronger case.

Come on now, you knew what I was saying. Everyone from time to time makes mistakes on here, hell its not like this is your first thread you have commented on, I have seen other mistakes you have made on other threads but you are just the type when you see one made by others, you pounce on it trying to make you look so smart.

Okay guys, lets not get the Grammar Police involved here. I have similar problems, mainly due to phat phingers and old eyes. I have to proof read ech post at least once and that often isn't enough.

Home Depot may have the correct Stainless machine screws in stock. Please take some pics and post them for the entire job.
Good luck with it.

You could also get most of the effect of no roof rack by just taking the cross bars off and leave the tracks in place. With the slotted track I believe you can get the cross bars off by just taking one of the end caps off the rails and then replacing it.

My 97 EX did not come with a roof rack on it. I do like the clean look if it but am looking to find one for it anyway. My daughter and I Kayak often and one of the reasons why I picked up the Expy was to carry the Kayaks on the roof. I am having a tough time finding some in a junk yard around here.

Wow, I haven't been able to get back here for a while... looks like every one got real riled up.

I made the original post because I have seen quite a bit of bad information passed around when people ask questions (I was on the receiving end of some), and often times discussions go on with it being obvious to me that many people are talking as if there has only been one style rack..

I maybe didn't get all of the info perfect the first time but the basic info was still valid. There has been two different racks delivered... make sure you are buying parts compatible with the style of rack you have. Pretty simple I think.
I have edited the O.P.

I agree with informing everyone that there are 2 separate styles, I also think the differences were in trim levels or the models with power sun roofs. Motor mel, mine is off with the bolts back in the holes with no leaks, looks so much better if they will never be used!
