EBay was good for me.
They are way tall. Taller than necessary actually but if you slide material in the rear that is tall, it's nice to clear the door without question.

Hey Harley, generally an extra 2-3 inches is a good thing.......an EXTRA 8" might just be too much.....

I'm 6' and when its open I can just curl my fingers over the bottom of the hatch to close it. But occasionally I'll slide 10' material in the EX and I've had it drag the hatch seal.....not anymore!

Im 6'6", the 8" extra height would be perfect. I checked out the ones on ebay, but they say they are only 1.5" longer. Where are you finding the 8" ones?

I think they should clarify it better.

The prop might only be 1.5" longer but the geometry of it all kicks the gate 8.5 higher off the ground!

Those are the exact ones I ordered.

I haven't even started using my new 01 4x4 X yet and I have already hit my head twice on the hatch while it was up...

I got sick of having to pop the hatch, then hold the hatch up with my head while unloading my grocery cart.

I just popped the part number 6421EX into Amazon and found a pair for $24 with free shipping.

Interestingly enough, the new ones are blank while the OE ones had blue labels. MFG Date 356/99, so they're original.

I had disconnected the original struts and accidentally dropped the hatch on one, chipping the edge of the frame of my hatch. It's fiberglass. How the hell is fiberglass so heavy?

Does anyone have any issues with these staying open in the cold? The ones I have now are from lift support depot and sag a lot in the cold. They could just be old and tired and need replacing.

The update on mine would be: In the Summer, STAND BACK & hang on to the door. In the Winter pop the hatch & wait 2 sec then the hatch will lift itself ALL the way up on it's own.

My new ones act exactly the same way. However, before I replaced them, the cold air sapped the strength right out of the old ones...

Are you using originals or the ones from lift support depot? Are they new or old? I'm trying to gauge the life of the ones from lift support depot. I open the hatch A LOT and I don't want to be replacing them every winter.
