2011 Tennessee Hunting

I figure sense there's a fishing thread...may as well be a hunting thread! Share pics, tips, good areas and anything else.

It's spring turkey and out here in Cedars of Lebanon, so far I've seen a bunch of hens a couple jakes. All the gobblers are being call shy. I guess the early warm weather got them out and about sooner. I'm watching one with about a 10" beard and little over 1" spurs that keeps cycling through near one of my spots. I found his roosting tree, so I'm hoping he's mine next round!

Here's a pic of last year's biggest bird:
8" beard, 1 3/16" spurs, about 25lbs

maples01 - I like groundhogs... They're best when fed small lead pellets delivered by Remington. I've got an old "66" with a 3-9 sitting on top and sighted to 75 yards. My only problem is that when Mr. Remington talks to them, they run into their hole and go to sleep.

It's so smart, when dad gets out of the truck and ***** the shotgun, it runs and is gone, very big one, so it's been around a while, can't live long being stupid.

NEW 2011-2012 Hunting Seasons!!

Thank the good Lord above, the TWRA just made sense of our jumbled up seasons!!
Now there's only one looooong big gun season, instead of stopping for a couple weeks and resuming. They also moved fall turkey from December to October, so it is actually fall turkey now. Wild hogs are no longer protected(= no bag limits or regulations) Here's a link to the TWRA's website for all the nitty, gritty details!! Happy hunting!!

There are turkey's at the old farm too, were in the front yard of the house, they sure run fast. Deer are in mom and dads garden eating the leaves from the okra plants.

Well, actually, the TWRA screwed up here. I misunderstood them for having common sense. They made it illegal to hunt wild hogs. What the heck?? They are a nuisance, invasive species so lets not kill them? Epic fail TWRA, epic fail.

"Wild hogs have been removed as a big game animal and will be allowed to be taken on select WMAs during deer hunts. Wild hogs are now listed in a new non-protected wildlife proclamation."

Looks to me that certain hunts are unrestricted, kill as many as you can. I have no interest in them, they are mean *******s and must be shot with a kigh caliber, or you just make them mad.

Dad's seen them hunted at Catoosa, a 30/30 pisses them off, he's had no interest in messin with them, when they are wounded, they drop their head and take their tusks, tear through the woods like a dozer, will maul anything/anyone in their path. There's nothing like the sound of a wounded one runnin either, just not worth bothering, but they need to be controlled as they tear up stuff.
