If you go to www.FixYourRadio.com, there is a Save My Sanity Swap Program in which you get a modified board, no soldering required, just remove three screws and use a pair of needle nose pliers to bend a couple of tabs, then replace the modified board with your broke board. Once you verify all is working, you return your old board using the shipping label they provide and the same box too. I did NOT have to go weeks without my radio while I waited for it to be repaired. Took me about 20 minutes (that time I was without my radio) to swap out the board. Took me only 2 days to get my board once I placed the order. I got access to excellent instructions that were filled with detailed pictures that lead me through the repair step by step. I did all this with no electronics background whatsoever. What a pleasant way to be reunited with my display. Been working like a champ ever since! I actually like driving my car again!
I have a 98 Ford Explorer and a 99 Expedition. The radio display is out on both. Can someone send me the picture ot something on how to fix it, please?
Does anyone have step-by-step instructions to this proceedure with pictures ? I'm gonna take a stab at repairing this thing today...it will work for a bit if the battery is disconnected and re-installed...but its temporary.
98 Explorer: the display light for the radio and clock has suddenly gone out.could it be a burnt out bulb? Any suggestions? also, the FM channels work fine but AM has never pulled anything in, could there be a wire off? Help! thanks
Hello, this is Brent at 1 Factory Radio. The best solution for display lights going out in Ford Explorers is to get a new DC to DC Converter, because this part was usually responsible for display malfunctions due to its own inherent deisgn flaws. We offer our own brand of DC to DC Converter for Ford Explorers and many other Ford vehicles from the late 90's to the early 2000's. Pioneer no longer makes these parts, but ours are 40% less expensive than the ones that Pioneer was selling. These are high-quality, newly manufactured pieces which have been specifically engineered to correct the design flaws which caused the originals to malfunction prematurely, and they come with a full-color instruction manual for easy installation. You can purchase them from our eBay site, Truck Radio, iPhone Input items in Car Radio store on eBay!, and also on the 1 Factory Radio website, www.1factoryradio.com.
