Need help Wiring a 95 cab to a 83 motor

I have a 95 cab with a fuel injected 5.8 motor but it's on a chassis with a 83 with the 460 carbed motor. How do I wire this motor to run?

Good question.. haha. I think you will probably need all the connectors off of the 460 cab. Then you could cut your old ones out and connect the 460 ones. I don't know if the 5.8 harness will work on a 460, hopefully someone with more info. will chime in and help ya out.

I'm just thinking that I'll have to hook up a switched wire to the 460's ignition box and the starter wire to the starter and it should run but I'm not sure which wire and if there is anything else to hook up. I know the harnesses are different so it's not a plug it in type of deal.

Get the wire diagrams for both year of trucks. As the 83 460 is most likely a Duraspark 2 setup. There is lots of info on how to convert from EFI to carb here. Search for "efi to duraspark" and you should get more help.

Ah, forgot, the fuel tank sending unit must be the same year range as the 95 dash. I found out the hard way when I swapped from 84 carb to 87 EFI. The sending units will read backwards between the years. Had to "reengineer" the older style sending unit into my EFI fuel tank. The temp sensor I think are the same between the years. The oil sensor on 88 and up is really a simple switch, so you may have to swap out the oil sensor. Last but not least, the 95 speedo is full electronic that has the sensor in the rear end(speed/ABS sensor). The 83 unless you change the rear end with the sensor is cable driven from tranny/xfer case.

Its all possable but no going to be a simple plug and play setup.

1) Coolant temp wire, plug it into the sender on the 460

2) oil pressure wire, plug it into the sender on the 460

3) full time ignition hot, use it to power the Duraspark ignition,
wiring information on it here--->> Duraspark II Conversion Basics

The rest is pretty straight forward and will hook up like they came off the 95 to begin with (starter solenoid, headlights, etc) although you will have to do something to send a signal for the speedo, since the 83 is cable driven
