Question Mud drag this summer. Tire size?

I'm going to enter my 77 f150 in a mud drag (or bog, whatever you want to call it) this coming summer. by then, the 400 will be dropped in and will have an rv cam. I'm running 33's on it right now and I have a set of 33" Regul's to put on it. There's different tire classes for the bog, so I was just curious, what's the largest tire I can run on a stock high pinion dana 44 and not blow out the diff or blow a shaft on the launch? Keep in mind, I'll probably be doing more than one launch.

I would say you should be safe with 35s on a D44, it might last for a little while with 37s but you're playing with fire if you go that big. You'll have to lift it if you're wanting to go above your 33s. That or break out the saw and clearance the fenders.

thanks man. it's already lifted. i had 36x14.50's on it but i sold them and bought the reguls because the 36's rubbed the radius arms and they were pretty evil tires on that truck.

I ran 35x11.5x15 Boggers on my Bronco mud bog truck for 3 years with a Dana 44 with no problems. It was an '86 with the ttb and it held up fine. We had a little tire rub but not too bad so I didn't worry about it for the first 2 years. We never drove it on the street so if the fenders got beat up a little it didn't matter. Last year I put a 3 inch body lift on it and that fixed any rubbing problems we had.
Then the Bronco died. Got $100.00 for it at the scrap yard.
