Removing egr 99 6.8 v10, power increse??

Doing a 99 v10 swap with pi heads and was wondering if id gain any power removing the EGR? Will Mpg be affected? I do not have to pass emmisons, and getting a 5 star tune

When you do the PI swap you have to lose the EGR as you must used the PI intake manifold that doesn't have provisions for the EGR. I removed the EGR on my '99 V10 since I had a bit of a conflict with header fitment and didn't notice a decrease or increase. I did however have to turn off "EGR switching" to eliminate a CEL.

I have pondered the actual benefit of EGR as not many gasoline powered vehicles produced now have it (from what I can see). Most of those vehicles have at least exhaust side VCT to act as an EGR valve though.

Someone here said they DID get the EGR to work with the PI intake, there is a block-off plate on the port.

But NO - you won't gain any power removing the EGR.

If you do remove the EGR, you need to get a tune that can turn off the CEL because of it (not sure if that's possible, but I think it is)... the DPFE will still be monitored by the PCM.

But since you're going to PI heads anyway, do away with the EGR if you can. it's just more plumbing that doesn't really need to be there. It might have been useful to reduce the possibility of pining under light-to-moderate loads, but the metering of the EGR for PI heads on non-PI pistons would be an experimental process you don't want to really get into if you don't have to

That be me.
Unbolt the block off plate, install '99 EGR.

You will NOT get any more power by eliminating EGR. Guaranteed.

Theoretically, you should get 1/2 to 1 mpg BETTER cruise mpg WITH a functioning EGR in place on a large displacement engine. I personally have not done any scientifically valid studies to confirm it on this engine.

Hi Guys
We can turn off egr too in the calibration. Only thing egr is good for is to cool the combustion temps, that is if system works properly.
