LIFT KIT, or blocks and leveling kit??

So i've been thinking of a lift kit & 37" tires...

Then someone told me all you need to run 37"'s is a 2" leveling kit.

Then I was thinking it will look stupid with weight in the back as the front will be pointing up....

THEN I started thinking, why not install a 2" leveling kit in front, and a 2" block in the back?

The truck should sit as it does now, only 2" higher, and be able to run 37" 's.

Also the cost is much lower than buying a lift kit.

Thoughts?

i'm thinking of doing the same thing.. just a leveling kit and running 37's... i'm thinking of the readylift 3.5" leveling kit tho.. instead of the 2.5..

Your new truck isn't in your sig so I didn't know if you had a F250 or 350...

I did the ICON 2.5 Stage I leveling kit on my buddy's F350, along the OUO traction bars and ICON's adjustable track bar. I do NOT want to cause any issues with supporting vendors, they're invaluable to this site, but just for informational purposes HERE'S where we bought the system...

He's running legit 35s on the stock 18s and the stance and look couldn't be more perfect, at least in our opinion!

That's a whole lot more expensive than just buying some spacers, but the difference in ride quality between a truck with just spacers and this truck is completely night and day. This ICON kit is often commented to ride like a Cadillac and since I just came out of an '07 Escalade ESV, with the exception of the firmness provided the additional leaf springs that the F350 has (and the F250 doesn't) it did make for an exceptional improvement in ride quality.

If you tow, use the truck for work, etc. then you might want to consider a kit like ICON's over just some leveling spacers or the like. On my '10 F250 I'm likewise using the ICON 2.5 kit with some additional upgrades over the Stage I...

Hope this helps, good luck!

I own a 08 250 C/C SWB FX4 and I put the pro comp 2.5 spacer on the front and pro comp 4" block in the rear. I liked the pro comp block best because it's OEM style. They are a bit pricey, though. Replaced the Ranco's with the Pro Comp 9000's. My truck sits with a 1/2" rake in it now and I love it. If you are towing you may want to use a 5" block in the rear. I'm running Nitto's 295/70/18's, which are 34.5" on stock wheels. They are more narrow than a 35x12.5 but have a 4090lb. rating. Most 37's aren't a true 37" and will probably fit without a problem. Think I paid around $1900 for everything.

I wouldnt run 37's on any less than a 6" lift. Thats just my opinion since I only like low offset rims that stick out alot and require more clearance and I also hate the look of a stuffed tire (no fender clearance). I'm sure you could pull off 37's on a 4" lift but you would probably have to trim a little.

IIRC the vendor that we got that ICON kit from recommended basically the same thing, 35s are fine for a leveling kit but to prevent rubbing, etc. they recommended a 4-inch lift at a minimum for 37s and said a 6-inch or higher was actually better...

37" Toyo's with Readylift's 2.5" SST Leveling Kit - I also have a set of AirLift Air Bags in the rear for when my Lance Camper is onboard! Looks fine to me... not stuffed... no trimming? IMO, of course.

Sitting static it looks OK I guess, but even so those tires look like they're sitting way to close to the front bumper and pocket flares. Not everyone runs their trucks aggressively off-road, but I'd bet any significant suspension event could wreak all sorts of havoc with that set up, regardless of the AirLift bags. It's not just a cosmetic issue, it's a functional issue. You have X amount of travel with the stock suspension and tires and you need to maintain at least that X amount when you up-size the tires to maintain the proper clearances throughout the range of suspension travel. Basically if I add 3 inches of height to my tires (from 34s to 37s) I should add at least that much to my suspension. Of course there's a whole lot of people that don't subscribe to that theorem when it comes to either raising or lowering their vehicle, but there's a potential penalty for doing so (just like tuning your truck!). Just because it fits doesn't mean you should do it.

Speaking of which, what's the width on those 37s...?

Sorry... haven't been by the computer for a couple of days! The wheel are Helo HE842's in 17X8 - "0" Offset and 4.5" backspacing. Longview1 was right - the tires are Toyo Open Country MT's in 37X13.50R-17's.

The truck sways and bobs pretty good in the ruts on the beach with the camper loaded. I haven't had any issues with bumper or flare contact as yet.

Of course it's not like romping around in a sand pit or the woods at pretty good speeds. I won't be doing that so I guess the setup is good for my needs.

Excellent 411! Thanks The offset/backspacing on those Helo is PERFECT for those tires, they tuck and fit very well.

Personally, as a biker, I'm NOT a fan of gigantic tires sticking out past the fender with no flares and/or mudflaps...it's not cool. If anyone thinks it is, go to your local batting cage and stand in front of the pitching machine set to "fastball"!
