302 to 300-6 covert. with other mods. Please Help.

Ok i just got a ex-cab short bed ford f150 4x4. It has whats left of a 302 in it and i'm swapping it out for a 300-6 out of a 91 f150. Heres what i know: I need a flywheel for the 300-6. The wire harness and computer from the 300-6. The motor mounts, radiator, and whatnots.

So what else will i need? I've heard talk about putting 19# injectors on it... what all do i need to do to go about that? Also how do i go about getting rid of the egr smog pump BS?? Does anyone know how to convert the r12 system to r134a?

Thanks for all the help.

The 19 lb injectors are too big for a stock 300.

First thing.... what year is the "new" truck and what transmission does it have?
It would be easier to put a 5.8 in this truck but if the 300 is what you got and you don't mind some extra work then go with it. You don't need to change the wiring harness simply leave two injectors wires(one from each bank) disconnected and plug in the I6 computer, you may have to lengthen some wires or at least pull them out of the loom but otherwise it's all there. Swapping the engine harness isn't as easy as you might think, the engine portion from different years are not interchangable at all and even those from the same year for different engines can have differences. You will need to remove the V8 engine mounts and frame towers(which are riveted on), and install I6 frame towers and engine mounts. You need an I6 flywheel/flexplate that matches whatever transmission the truck has and an I6 rad and hoses. For your own sanity don't worry about deleting/modifying stuff yes, first get the motor in and running correctly and then go back and remove whatever you like. The computer you need is one that matches the powertrain combo in the new truck so you need to find out exactly what each truck currently has, it not sufficient to say they both have automatics or even overdrive automatics because there are at least 4 different auto transmissions that could be in either truck and each one requires a different computer. And of course the exhaust system is totally different for these engines so that has to be swapped or modified too.

Well the 300-6 is out of a 91 f150 2wd automatic overdrive. Its the 18 bolt pan so its either an A4LD, 4R45E, or 4R55E. its going in a 89 f150 4wd manual 4 speed.((Borg Warner 13-01-065-907)don't really kow what it it.) There is one concern though.. The 89 thats has the 302 had cruise control and the 91 300-6 doees not. is this going to be a problem? would i need a computer of a 300 that had cruise control?
thanks for all the help.

i wouldnt recommend a 302 in that truck let alone a 300. ive talked to conanski about my truck in my sig and the 302 is way underpowered for this big of a truck and i hate it in mine. 351 is a direct swap basically. conanski here has the same truck as us and he told me that he got better gas mileage out of his 351 in it than he did the 302. but ill let him talk you into since he knows way more than me lol.

I can understand that. What was wrong with the 302? Always scrap it or part it out for extra cash to finish it

I swapped from a worn out 351w to a built 300-6 in an 84, it was a huge improvement. I would suggest a donor truck. It'll probably be cheaper than buying all the individual bits from a junkyard.

i got the truck and the motor was half way taken apart.. so i decided just to go with the pulling power from the 300 and do a swap. all that was really left of the 302 was the block and 1 head. they said it was getting harder and harder to start till it didnt start anymore. so they tore it apart. and then i got it.

Check the trans codes on the drivers door pillar and post it up, if you have an AOD you can use the computer but if it's the E4OD or 4R70w you can't.

No, cruise is a stand-alone type thing(not linked to the engine computer) so it won't be affected by the engine swap.
