Coolant flush before or after oil cooler replacement

Hi
I'm going to replace my oil cooler and also want to do a coolant flush. I'm not sure if its best to the the flush before or after the new oil cooler. Will the flush cause the new oil cooler to get clogged if done after the install? I will also be installing a coolant filter.

Thanks

I replaced my oil cooler twice. The first time I flushed after the oil cooler replacement. Within 100 miles (and probably during the flush) my new cooler was clogged. I would highly recommend flushing the system VERY well (removing hoses, block plugs etc) prior to replacing the oil cooler. While you have your EGR cooler out flush that out too. If you wanted to, once it is back together flush it again. It's really critical to get any contaminates out of your cooling system which can lodge in the new oil cooler. I can't see any argument with doing it before and after, but maybe I'm just paranoid after having done it twice in a row.

Yes before, if its running and flushable and probably afterward would not hurt either.

If your temps allow you to, flushing before is definetly the cats meow. I used over 70 gallons of distilled before replacement to flush mine.

Is there a reason that your replacing your oil cooler? Prev Maintenance? Do you have gauges to monitor temps?

You should look into a bullet proof EGR if your tearing into the beast that far...

I did a full flush with restore before the new cooler and still clogged my new oil cooler in 150 miles. In less than 400 miles I have 30 degrees delta again.

Remember the coolant filter is a bypass filter, it only filters small parts of the system @ a time. Don't rely on this to consistently clean your entire system.

Good luck

Flush before and until its clear. IIRC, Mine took 30 gallons of distilled. Don't forget to put a coolant filter on also.

I have Edge Insight and my temps are pushing over the 15. I installed a Bullet Prool EGR 2 years ago. I was due for a flush so might as well do the cooler, screen and replce the thermostat while in there.

How's the oil cooler itself?
