It measures 3.48mm diameter by 1.85mm thick (.1365x.073). It is seems to be alloy and looks like aluminum. So WTF is it? Is it a micro valve of some kind?

The Ranger is a ’99 4.0 4x4 with the 5-speed overdrive automatic trans with 82K miles. It seems to shift fine after the pan drop and filter change. It could have been the first pan drop.

Should I be worried?

Thanks,
DJ

Oops I thought I could post a photo. It is a tiny little cylinder like 1/8" x 1/16".

I ask this question a few months back. The little pieces are from your old pan gasket. I'll see if i can find the link. Nothing to worry about.

Edit: Nice post on the tranny pan metal spacers 00GT

Those solid metal slugs in the reuseable OEM tranny pan gasket, prevent us from over torquing the pan gasket, or warping the pan lip, a good idea, But as can be seen, they can fall out when reused after the cork gasket has some age on it.

SO, all that is the reason I decided to replace my 99 5R55E OEM reuseable tranny pan gasket, with a reuseable Felpro Felprene model, no cork or metal in it's design!!!

The Felpro gasket is also packaged such that it'll lay flat on the pan, right out of the box & also has the fastner holes punched slightly under sized, so that we can lay it on the pan, screw the fastners into it & it'll hold the fastners & they'll keep the gasket in place, while we have both hands free to raise the pan & get a couple of fastners started to hold the pan up. Makes pan installation much easier.

Changed the 94 Taurus AXODE OEM cork tranny pan gasket over to Felpro also, both have been on there 7-11 years without problems.

I run the pan fastners down evenly by hand with a nut driver, then tighten the fastners in a criss cross pattern in 2-3 torque steps, to spec, using my Harbor Freight 1/4 drive torque wrench, which is on sale now too!!!!

More tranny pan gasket thoughts for consideration.
