I went to Vintage Air A/C Seminar tonight
Great information was given... Learned some new information, now need to plan out the air system before I start my lower extention panel... It's going to be about $1500, so I wount be adding it this summer, unless I win the lottory or find a high paying job... But will plan it... So-Cal AZ has their mockup air box (I'm on the waiting list to borrow it and mock up my truck)...

I like what you've done so far on your system.... What kind of system are you using? the only lower panels I've seen that I like are custom ones. I really like one that I saw from a guy that I bought some parts from, has a panel made to follow the contor of the dash and made out of alum that he polished. I can see if I can get a pic of his... I planning on making my own out of metal, doing so I may be able to use a Gen IV...

I know it's more work, but wouldn't it be a lot cheaper to just go to a junkyard or shop on craigslist for junked vehicles to take AC parts from?
I can't see spending over$5-600....I know it "ain't the same thing" and won't obviously fit well, but I still don't see paying $400 for A/C as worth it.......
Now...paying $1500-2000!?! No way.

I can understand your point of view on the costs but this system is both heat and air. it is compact and will fit "right" and for those of use not up to speed on all the ins and outs of this sytem it is still the best way to go.
Something to consider is your time and effort to cobble a system together from assorted parts and pieces and no garuntee it will work. Not to mention you also need heat in other parts of the country than where you are.
There is also a third option and this will be the way I will probably go. I will pick out which system I want to go with and buy it piece meal. My start will be the controls and then the main unit. I can hookup it up as a heater/defroster. We need that out here too.
Then the next stage is to buy the rest of the A/C system as I can afford it and finish the installation. Slow? Yes. BUT by doing it this way I can slowly but surely get the entire system completed without having to come up with the whole amount of money all at once.
That is just me, your vision maybe different.

New may cost more but!!!
Don't forget that anyone requiring a good system for heat, cool, and defrost get the best of all worlds with a new Vintage Air system. I will be using my truck when done 56 F-100 as a daily driver in B.C. Canada, and we don't get those long scorching California or Florida summers but some very good ones that do require a good AC unit and I want one that truly works well.
We also get lots of wet cold weather so a good heater defroster is important so I will not trust my new build to some used piece of equipment that may break down any time because it is worn out after years of use all ready.
Vintage Air has a great warranty and they actually will sell you a 2 year extension for about $20 I believe when you register your system so you will have a four year warranty.
Their technical line will will assist you with any install or troubleshooting questions as well, great company to deal with, and great product.
Good luck and keep cool everyone.
