M5od zf trans swap

I have a zf five speed that I want to swap into my f150. As far as I know it's a direct bolt up, but I'm wondering if the transfer case linkage will swap over because they is a different between my truck and the one on the new trans. Also is the plumbing from the master cylinder to the slave any different?

Everything is a direct bolt on, except for the shift lever. That is different between the m5od and the zf

Is the ZF you got from a 91 and older? Witch would explain the different linkages for the transfercase.

I don't know if they were different from F150 to F250 etc, but I know the 92+ trucks, have such a ****ty design 4x4 linkage for the 4x4 shifter. They all break.

If you can keep the older style one from the ZF, go for it!

But also, if the ZF is from a 91 older, you'll need to plug a hole in it, that was used for the speedo cable. Your 93 doesn't have one.

A bit of a thread de-rail, but not too far given that the subject heading is sorta generic.... On a 2WD M5R2 to ZF5 swap, is anything but the transmission itself needed? Same driveshaft and cross-member?

I guess one thing to be aware of is the '92+ change to electronic speedo output, but that would be an issue even if staying with the M5.

I think you will need a driveshaft, as the ZF is almost a foot shorter than the M5. Cross member can be moved/moded if I remember correctly.

Yea, that would be a bit much to make up with the slip-yoke. Thanks...

Clutch and Slave, yes be a good idea to change those since you have the tranny in your hands. Especially since the small block ZF has the same internal slave like the M5OD.

Someones whos done this swap before should chime in for the cross member, but I imagine if you can't find one, you can make/mod the M5 cross member to fit the ZF5.

I'm pretty sure that the cross member is the same ZF to Mazda, at least on a 2wd truck. If it's not the same, the ZF bolts to a Mazda crossmember I got from the junkyard just fine in my truck. I re-used the original clutch when I swapped the ZF, so it shouldn't be a problem either.
