2004 F-250 Transmission Fluid Temp Sensor

2004 F-250 6.0 Turbo Diesel W/ Torque Shift Transmission. Im having a problem with my Check Gauge light coming on and Tow Haul light flashing on my 04 F-250. I got a Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor from my local Ford Dealership. They also said i needed to replace the Transmission harness for this application because of an open circuit. My questions are, Is Mercon SP the only ATF that can be used on the Torque shift transmission (im sure it is, just wondering if anyone heard of or used an alternative), and do i really need to replace the harness or just the sensor? I have read up a little on this and so far everything say's drain the fluid, drop the trans pan, swap out the sensor, replace the trans pan (torque setting is 11flbs i believe, correct me if im wrong, replace with Mercon SP ATF and your good to go. If anyone has replaced this sensor and ran into any problems or know's any little tricks to it, that would be very appreciated. Thanks

I only replaced the sensor, who ever said replace the trans harness because of a open wire, but never diagnosed it is full of crap. Mercon SP or its replacement Mercon LV is what you need. About 8.5 quarts and while your at it, change the trans filter.

The filter is housed in a aluminum canister just behind the passenger side bumper. When you start to remove the filter housing don't apply a slow torque, but rather a fast motion. The ideal way to remove it is with a impact gun. Don't worry about the internal filter that you will see when removing the trans pan. This filter gets replaced on a rebuild. Lastly you will need no pan seal because the one from the factory is a permanent one.

I second the impact gun, the bracket wants to twist that holds the housing.

Changed out the Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor this afternoon took all of 45-50min. Drove it for about and hour and seems to be working just fine, transmission shifts perfect, no more Check Gauge light and Tow haul light on the dash. Thanks for the help…

Part number for the harness?? I called the dealer and they want $29 for the sensor and $260 for the harness. Going into a 04 F350 Harley Edition.
Thanks!
