Hey guys,
I know its been done before but I cant find how. I have a 7.3 diesel with air conditioning. I never run the A/C and it leaks so im not going to bother fixing it. Iv herad that people have turned the A/C motor into an air compressor to fill air tanks. I plan n doin this to run air horns and air bags. Any ideas how to convert the air compressor??

Havent done it but I would think it easy to plumb.. just run the charge line with a 1 way valve to a tank, replace the return line with a filter and use the AC clutch as the on/off switch. The part Im not sure about would be the lubrication since the R134 takes care of that in a closed system??

 

I talked to guy who did it and he said his a/c pump eventually seized, I just bought a onboard air kit from horn blasters for air horns, tire inflations, use of nail guns etc.

Yup I did it for a while. You need to manually oil the compressor because it was built to be oiled by the freon going through it and that is gone. I did it for a while and it worked well.. Mine eventually seized up due to age (happens even with working a/c systems) so I just switched to a stand alone compressor.

As for the semi compressor mod for a vehicle, thats pretty awesome but probably pretty expensive also. I have air shocks and horn on my truck... If I had more it might be a good thing to do the install.

for that price i would fab up a york compressor , they are not lubed by the freon as they are lubed just like a engine ( splash lubed )
