Question about direct wiring starter relay/solenoid

Question about direct wiring starter relay/solenoid

When my ignition switch started acting up and while waiting on the local parts store to get a replacement, I ran a hot wire to the starter relay/solenoid through a push-button switch on the dash. It worked fine, but I'm wondering if in doing this I was bypassing anything that is in the regular ignition switch/starter circuit. Can someone educate me here? Thanks.

The truck is an '87 F250, 300 engine.

You bypassed the neutral safety switch on the tranny, or the clutch pedal interlock switch if your truck came with one.
