Finally got some work done on my bed. I know I keep saying that I want to keep everything original but sometimes you got to just say "What the heck".
So I went with Oak boards with Cherry slats. It may not be original but I like it. I still don't know how to add pictures to a thread but I was able to upload them to my album.

 

Looks Very good!!! I don't see any fasteners....how is it attached?

@tinman I think he has put glue on the small wood strips, and then on the metal strip.

 

If you saw in the other pictures there was a piece of plywood down. The PO had drilled and screwed it from the bottom. I just used his holes (added a couple) and screwed it in from the bottom up. Its all wood, I didnt use the metal strips
